Lotus Restaurant is housed in Quality Hotel along Balestier Road.

Being a non-vegetarian, the idea of a no-meat steamboat scared me a bit. It was quite hard to imagine a whole pot of shrooms and leaves. However, this steamboat buffet did surprised me. Returned for another meal with our family and they enjoyed it too.

They have 3 types of soup based to choose from : Tom Yam, Miso and Yam.

I don't fancy stuff which is too hot and spicy, so I only tried the Tom Yam during my second visit. It was rather mild and acceptable, yet has enough kick for my tao pok and other food stuff which will soak up the soup while being cooked. I guess they did a

milder version it because vegetarian food tends to be associated with the idea of 清淡。

Food is mainly classified into the mocked meats & seafood , the bean stuff (tofu, tau pok, fu pi, and the tau pok balls) , shrooms and vegetables. There are some 瓜 like bitter gourd, melon.

I want to add that the tow pok balls (or glutton balls) goes very well with the soup. It is probably

my favourite item among all.

Besides raw food, they also serve a decent variety of cooked food, which is good so that you get to start eating while waiting for the first batch of food to be cooked in the steamboat pot. There are interesting dim sums, fried samosa, sushi and mutton curry.

To end it off, there are usually 2 types of cooked dessert and an ice-cream counter. Unlike most buffet, drinks are included. You get freeflow soft drinks, coffee, tea and some fruit tea.

The steamboat buffet is available on Monday to Thursday for $18.80 ++. Adds up to about $22 per pax, which is quite reasonable. The place is cozy, clean and the service standards are up to mark.

The restaurant serves an Asian Buffet from Fridays to Sunday and Public Holidays for the same price.
