Wifey blogs - OSIA (Resort World Sentosa)

This is a fairly new establishment set up by Scott Webster, an Australian chef-consultant. Despite being a new player here, it has already picked up a couple of awards the last time I googled, including Singapore's Best Restaurant Guide 2011 by Singapore Tatler and Best New Restaurant by CNNGo’s Best Eats awards

Recalled that we were there on the day many parts of our island was flooded following a non-stop heavy thunderstorm. Inside Osia, it was, however, it was a cozy and enjoyable lunch we had in there.

The server's recommendation of flatbread was great. On sensing that we couldn't quite decide which type to choose, he suggested a mix, giving us the best of both world.

The bread itself is soft and warm. It comes with this little tube of spiced garbanzo which is really tasty. I ended up rationing my bread so that I can have more of it.

For the mains, hubby had this risotto with mushroom and

asparagus. He says it's "risotto that pleases even non-risotto-eaters". I think he usually gets very bored and full after a while when he orders risotto. This version, is however, light enough for him to like.

Set lunches (available even on weekends) go at $38 for 2 course. Besides the main, you pick either a starter or a dessert. We ordered a salad and had chocolate soup for dessert.

The meat-free salad with grapefruit. Refreshing.

The chocolate soup, look at the oozing valrhona chocolate. This has to be hubby's favourite.

Wifey blogs :Vegetarian Steamboat

Lotus Restaurant is housed in Quality Hotel along Balestier Road.

Being a non-vegetarian, the idea of a no-meat steamboat scared me a bit. It was quite hard to imagine a whole pot of shrooms and leaves. However, this steamboat buffet did surprised me. Returned for another meal with our family and they enjoyed it too.

They have 3 types of soup based to choose from : Tom Yam, Miso and Yam.
I don't fancy stuff which is too hot and spicy, so I only tried the Tom Yam during my second visit. It was rather mild and acceptable, yet has enough kick for my tao pok and other food stuff which will soak up the soup while being cooked. I guess they did a
milder version it because vegetarian food tends to be associated with the idea of 清淡。

Food is mainly classified into the mocked meats & seafood , the bean stuff (tofu, tau pok, fu pi, and the tau pok balls) , shrooms and vegetables. There are some 瓜 like bitter gourd, melon.

I want to add that the tow pok balls (or glutton balls) goes very well with the soup. It is probably
my favourite item among all.

Besides raw food, they also serve a decent variety of cooked food, which is good so that you get to start eating while waiting for the first batch of food to be cooked in the steamboat pot. There are interesting dim sums, fried samosa, sushi and mutton curry.

To end it off, there are usually 2 types of cooked dessert and an ice-cream counter. Unlike most buffet, drinks are included. You get freeflow soft drinks, coffee, tea and some fruit tea.

The steamboat buffet is available on Monday to Thursday for $18.80 ++. Adds up to about $22 per pax, which is quite reasonable. The place is cozy, clean and the service standards are up to mark.

The restaurant serves an Asian Buffet from Fridays to Sunday and Public Holidays for the same price.

Keat Lim Vegetarian - 吉林

a no-frills vegetarian zi char place in a relatively airy kopitiam.
one of their best staples : yellow hokkien mee with plenty of ingredients, glutton and non-glutton, like mushrooms, yam pieces, mocked meat, black fugus, cabbage, carrots , tow kwa, cauliflower etc etc ... the sauce is full of flavour and not starchy at all.

this is a 2 person serving, which can actually serves 3 if you are not too hungry. It costs us $6.

this stall serves a whole range of other zi char dishes and offers solid competition to the "meat" zi char stall in the same kopitiam.

NATURE (Zhi Ran)

Pricing: $3.50 for the Minced Meat Mian Sian

Food Quality: 4.4/5
Have eaten at this joint since I started vegetarianism in 2005. This place is a short trip from NUS when I was previously a student. Loved the various one dish zi char; very tasty and favourful. They got a huge menu which is now plastered all over the stall in photos. You will definitely find something of your preference in their menu.
Presentation: 3.2/5
Ambience: 2.3/5
Its a bit disappointing as they have their own shop. But the food more than make up for it.

Overall Grade: A-
Its really a good eat here in NATURE. The food standard has been maintained pretty high since 2005. If you are not particular that the place has no air-conditioning this works well as a daily eat. Pricing of the food is very reasonable. They also have cai fun which is a plate of rice and you select 3 dishes to go along with it.
Anyway, there's also a pretty ger working here. So bonus points for that! :)

Keat Lim Vegetarian (AMK)

Pricing: $17 for 3 diners. Zi Char Style.

Food Quality: (3.5-4)/5
Dependent on what you order and when you order. If there are too many people, the kitchen cannot handle the orders then food quality suffers. Also Zi Char dishes are mostly guaranteed to taste better.

Presentation: 2.5/5

Its a kopi-thiam! ;)

Overall Grade: B- to B+
Like i say depending on when your makan time. Can be superb at times but quite lacking too. Be slightly earlier than normal meal times. 11.30-12noon for lunch, 5-6pm for dinner. Overall the food fills the stomach quite satisfactory.

(Food is yummy and tasty. Most dishes are somehow fried. There a huge variety of cuisines; one of the most offered in vegetarian cafes/restaurants in SG. There is Japanese Cuisine, Chinese Fare, Western Food like the Club Sandwich above, Thai Food like the Olive Fried Rice pictured above. Desserts and many fruit juices. Extensive Menu!)

Presentation: 4/5

Ambience: 4/5
(Cafe style ambience. Loved the decor though. Its walls after walls of why you should be a vegetarian. And there's also a wall of the list of Vegetarian Celebrities!)

Overall Grade: A-

(Food is nice, the envrionment is also very quiet, conducive for makan. Staff is polite and friendly. Deserve at least an A category somehow.)

Reserve in advance if you are going there for weekend/public holiday dinners. Other times is fine as DeLiVeGe is a double storey restaurant with ample, spacious seatings.
